Larry W. Forsyth

Larry Walter Forsyth, the son of Robert Ezra and Leila May (Kurtz) Forsyth, was born January 3, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. In his youth, he belonged to a local trampoline club that helped him develop good lungs and a lot of stamina. Larry attended Des Moines North High School. During high school, he worked at Lynn’s Motorcycle Shop and acquired a love of motorcycle racing. As an adult he worked at Koenig Engineering designing and building racing motorcycles.

Larry joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He earned a place on the Air Force Judo Team. Larry enjoyed studying martial arts (Kendo, Judo, and Tae Kwon Do), and helped train military special forces and the Des Moines Police Academy.

Larry married Charlotte Ann Coe at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on May 21, 1970. They were blessed with a son, Daniel in 1977.

Over the years Larry worked for several companies as a machinist and repairman. He learned a variety of skills that allowed him to build homes (electrical, plumbing, concrete, roofing), and to build, repair, and operate a variety of equipment and industrial machinery.

Larry enjoyed studying primitive survival techniques and tracking, archery, photography, and many genres of music. He especially enjoyed attending Native American Pow Wows and blue grass festivals.

Larry passed away at home on March 9, 2021. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Charlotte, son Daniel, sister Arvella Machir, as well as other friends and relatives. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Robert Forsyth and Leila Gregory, a sister Loris Risius, and a brother Charles Forsyth.
