Kay K. Strauss, 77, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 19th at Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20th at Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel starting at 10:30 am.

Kay was born January 4, 1943 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Marvin and Dorothy White and has one older brother, Ken. She attended Fort Dodge High School graduating in 1961 and then attended Fort Dodge Community College and AIB College of Business in Des Moines earning an associate degree. While in high school Kay met Roger and were married three years later, on September 14, 1963.
Kay and Roger started their family with the birth of Shelley on August 25, 1967 and Chad on July 4, 1972.
Kay’s outgoing personality led her to medical office and receptionist jobs at a variety of organizations over the years. She retired in 2005.
Kay was actively involved in numerous organizations including Circle of Friends, Church Circle, TTT, Mits Wits, and PEO. She enjoyed socializing with friends by playing card games, going out to dinners, and visiting over coffee. She also enjoyed spending time with family and attending her grandkid’s activities. Kay and Roger also loved to travel and spent many winters in Florida with friends.
She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Social distancing will be observed and masks will be required.
Kay is survived by her husband Roger of West Des Moines, daughter Shelley (Mike) Gurwell of Lenexa, KS, son Chad (Alissa) Strauss of Johnston, five grandchildren, Kaylen & Trey Gurwell, Samantha, Henry & Charlie Strauss, and one brother, Ken (Carol) White of Weeki Wachee, FL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to West Des Moines United Methodist Church at 720 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
