John F. Scaglione

It is with heavy hearts we share the news of John Scaglione’s passing. John, 85, passed away on December 5, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
He was born on May 10, 1938, to Frank E. and Rose (Starcevic) Scaglione. He attended St. Anthony and Dowling High School and was a proud Southsider. He began his working career on the railroad and went on to own the Inferno Restaurant and Lounge with his life-long best friend Pete Mazzie. He enjoyed his retirement betting on horses at Prairie Meadows where he made many friends.
He married Norma Hillman and was blessed with 5 children: Michelle Scaglione (John Thomas), Melissa Rarick (David), Frank, Victor (Lori), Anthony (Lisa) and 6 grandchildren: Alyssa, A.J. and Randa Scaglione, Taylor and Jaci Rarick and Jacob Thomas.
He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Binder (Mark) and niece Kristen Hayes.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his son, Frank Scaglione and former wife Norma Albright.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, beginning at 4:00pm with a rosary at 7:30pm at Brooks Funeral Care (formerly Tonini Funeral Home) 2135 SW 9th St. in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s Church with burial at Glendale cemetery following.
