On Tuesday, December 8th, 2020, John Edward Hummel “Junior”, devoted father and Pampaw, passed away at the age of 77.
He was born on December 2nd, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa to John, Sr., and Ruth (Kittle) Hummel.
Junior served in the Vietnam war on two separate occasions. Oh, the stories he would tell. Here at home Junior drove a semi most of his life. He married Bonnie (Williams) in 1976. They met in California and then moved back home to Iowa. Together they shared their daughter Sheila, although they divorced a few years later, they remained very good friends. Junior was always the life of the party. He lived for his jokes, his pranks, and the smiles they would leave on their face. He loved playing cards, gambling, and playing bingo. But his favorite time of all was spent with his daughter and his grandchildren, they were the loves of his life. He passed on his love for card games, to them, something they will cherish forever. He loved fishing, boating, and mowing his lawn to perfection. Junior was known for his sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his love of family. He was perfectly imperfect, and he will be deeply missed.
Junior was preceded in death by his father John, Sr., mother, Ruth (Kittle), brother, Bill (Liz), cousin, Larry (Hummel) and many aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Sheila (James) and his grandkids, Aubreigh, Sienna, Rylan, and Ashley, sisters, Dixie, Toodie and DeAnna and so many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his best friend of 72 years, Joe (Carol)Harter.
At the request of Junior and his family, there will be no funeral. However, after the winter weather has gone, there will be a Celebration of Life in his honor.
