Frederick Rene Daye

Frederick Rene Daye passed away on September 7, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

 

Frederick leaves to cherish his memory his Wife Kathy Daye; his child Aricca Daye and his stepchildren Anthony Hutchinson, and Ashley Johnson; His Brother William Ridley; His Sisters: Dorothea Polk and Dephenea Gibson, his aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Freddie and Eunice, his brother Jeff Daye, and his son Joshua Hutchinson.

 

Frederick was born on January 4, 1958, to Freddie Daye and Eunice Ridley. He attended Johnston High School then went on to become a US Marine in 1975. Rick is famously known for being the first person exonerated by way of a DNA test for a crime he did not commit in September of 1994. Despite life’s challenges Rick loved to make people laugh, dance and sing. He was so sharp when he dressed, loved his family very much. He was a member of Union Baptist Church where he proudly served on the Usher Board, he is remembered for saying “Thank you Jesus” with his hands raised in in the air. He was the life of the party and just enjoyed making people smile. Rick was so special to so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


Services will be Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church 1200 Mccormick St, Des Moines, IA 50316.
