Updated: Mar 11

Francis ‘Frank’ Marion Walker was born on April 10, 1940 in Maryville, Missouri to Vilas and Gertrude Walker. He passed unexpectedly on March 6, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Frank attended high school in St. Joseph and Kansas City, Missouri. He then went on to attend Conception Seminary College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Education. He joined the Army and served for four years as a German Linguist.

He moved to Idaho and eventually attended the University of Idaho where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. He worked for Idaho Vocational Rehabilitation, Alaska Pacific Assurance Company and Crawford and Company. After working for Crawford and Company for a few years, his job moved his family to Spokane, Washington and then Des Moines, Iowa where he retired from his managerial position in 1999.

After retirement Frank spent his time camping with his wife Gail, playing golf, fishing, and playing cards. They traveled to Missouri and Idaho frequently where he spent time with family and friends. In the last year and half he and Gail moved to a senior community where he met many more new friends who also enjoyed playing cards.

He is survived by his wife Gail Walker, daughter Brenda (Gary) Johnson, and sons Brian Walker, Kurt (Christine) Jones, and Dennis Barden and grandchildren Shannon Barden, Zach Barden, Dylan Johnson and Oliver Barden and several nieces and nephews (whom he enjoyed beating at cards).

Frank was a devoutly religious man whose faith formed a very caring and selfless person who will be dearly missed.

A visitation is scheduled from 12:00 PM till 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, Iowa 50310 with a funeral ceremony to follow at 1:00 PM.
